First, apply the tape only to the outer threads.
To ensure a good seal, wrap the tape in a clockwise direction and completely cover the threads.
You only need two or three turns of tape; however, thinner tapes may require four or five turns.
Be careful not to apply too much tape. Excess tape will squeeze out of the joint.
Pull the roll and the tape will break easily.
Because plumber's tape does not require curing time, you can thread the pipe immediately after applying the tape
Precautions for Use
Before applying any plumber's tape, we recommend checking to make sure your system (including any materials used to make it or found in it) is approved and compatible with the threads. You can find this information on the container of thread sealant or ask the manufacturer.
Make sure all pipe threads are clean. The joints should be free of rust, scale, grease, and other contaminants. Remove all debris with a clean cloth or wire brush.
In the growing world of DIY, it's important to do it right.
Applying duct tape sounds easy, but it can be a fundamental mistake if you're not careful.
Once the threads on the end of the pipe are clean, you're ready to go.
Apply plumber's tape to the second thread from the end of the pipe, holding it in place with your thumb or finger. Lay the tape flat against the threads. Don't let the tape bunch up.
Wrap the tape around the pipe in the opposite direction that the pipe is turning.
Start at the end of the pipe and make sure the tape is wrapped tightly and overlapped as you go.
Finish wrapping from the end of the thread to the other end of the pipe.
You can simply remove the tape by hand and the pipe is connected
