Description

PTFE tape for leaks is intended to be used for general-purpose sealing pipe threads and is suitable for use with oxygen, water, oil, and gas. You can be assured that the PTFE is maintenance-free, non-toxic, and nonflammable. The PTFE pipe tape permits quick and clean sealing of pipe threads of all sizes and reduces the risk of contamination common with liquid and paste sealants.

Threaded pipe connections are the #1 source of leaks in plumbing, HVAC, and industrial fluid systems. FOREVERSEAL PTFE tape solves this at the source: by filling the microscopic gaps between mating threads with a material that is chemically inert, thermally stable from -190°C to +260°C, and physically incompressible under pressure up to 3,000 PSI.

Our tape is manufactured from 100% virgin PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) resin - no recycled content, no fillers. PTFE's unique molecular structure (a fully fluorinated carbon chain) gives it the lowest coefficient of friction of any solid material, allowing it to conform to thread profiles under compression and create a leak-free seal that does not degrade, harden, or embrittle over time.

Unlike liquid and paste sealants that require curing time, create mess, and can contaminate downstream fluid systems, it permits immediate pressurization, is non-toxic, non-flammable, and leaves no residue in the pipe bore. This makes it the preferred sealing method for applications where fluid purity is critical - including oxygen lines, potable water systems, and food-grade processing.

Where This Tape Is Used - Real-World Applications

FOREVERSEAL PTFE tape has been trusted by plumbers, HVAC technicians, and industrial maintenance teams across 80+ countries since 2009. The 0.33 g/cm³ low-density formulation on this page is specifically engineered for general-purpose leak prevention - easy to wrap by hand, conformable to irregular threads, and suitable for a wide range of applications:

Residential & Commercial Plumbing - Seals water supply fittings, drain connections, and fixture installations on copper, brass, steel, and PVC threads.

HVAC & Refrigeration - Provides leak-tight seals on refrigerant line fittings that must withstand pressure cycling and temperature extremes from -190°C to +260°C.

Industrial Piping - Used in chemical processing, food & beverage production, and water treatment facilities where chemical inertness and fluid purity are essential.

Oxygen Lines - PTFE's chemical inertness and non-toxicity make it suitable for oxygen systems. The tape leaves no residue and does not react with oxygen at any concentration.

Oil & Fluid Systems - Suitable for hydraulic and lubrication thread connections in manufacturing equipment and vehicle assembly.

High-Temperature Applications - Rated for continuous use at +260°C - seals steam lines, heat exchanger connections, and other high-temperature threaded fittings where conventional sealants degrade.

How PTFE Tape Prevents Leaks

Understanding the mechanism makes you a better installer. Here's what happens when you wrap PTFE tape on threads and tighten the fitting:

Step 1: The Gap - Threaded connections are not metal-to-metal seals. There are always microscopic spiral gaps between the male and female thread profiles - these gaps are where leaks occur.

Step 2: The Fill - PTFE tape is wrapped over the male threads. With 2-3 wraps at 0.2mm thickness, the tape occupies the space where the gaps exist.

Step 3: Compression - As the fitting is tightened, the male thread pushes into the female thread. The PTFE tape is compressed into the gaps, flowing into every microscopic void due to its extremely low friction coefficient (0.05-0.10, lower than ice).

Step 4: Permanent Seal - PTFE is incompressible in the sense that it does not spring back or relax after compression. Once formed into the thread shape, it stays - creating a permanent seal that does not degrade over time.

Step 5: Chemical Stability - PTFE's chemical inertness means it does not react with any fluid passing through the pipe - water, oil, gas, oxygen, or chemicals. It will not dissolve, swell, embrittle, or contaminate.

How to Apply PTFE Tape for Leak-Free Results

Proper application is just as important as proper tape selection. Based on our 15+ years of manufacturing and field experience, here's what works best:

Clean the threads - Remove old tape, debris, and oil from the threaded surface. Clean threads seal better.

Wrap clockwise - Follow the thread direction so the tape tightens as the fitting is screwed in, not unwinds. For standard right-hand threads, wrap clockwise when looking at the end of the male fitting.

Apply 2-3 wraps - Overlap each wrap by approximately half the tape width for full coverage. For 19mm tape, 2-3 wraps is standard for general plumbing.

Press into threads - After wrapping, gently press the tape into the thread grooves with your thumb to pre-form it to the thread profile.

Trim excess - Cut off any tape extending past the thread end to prevent debris in the line.

Tighten to spec - Screw the fitting together by hand first, then tighten with a wrench to the appropriate torque spec. Avoid over-tightening, which can stress the fitting regardless of tape quality.

  • FAQS:

Q: What is the difference between low-density and high-density PTFE tape?

A: Low density (0.25-0.4 g/cm³, like this tape) is thicker and more conformable - easier to wrap by hand, better at filling thread imperfections. High density (0.7-1.5 g/cm³) is thinner and denser - better for high-pressure industrial applications where a tighter, more compact seal is needed. Choose based on your pressure class and application.

Q: Does PTFE tape work on plastic threads?

A: Yes. PTFE tape works on both metal (brass, steel, copper) and plastic (PVC, CPVC, nylon) threaded fittings. For plastic-to-plastic connections, use gentle tightening force to avoid cracking the fitting.

Q: Can I get free samples?

A: Yes. We provide free samples of any specification so you can verify quality before placing an order. Contact us at fiona@foreverseal.com with your requirements.

Q: What packaging options do you have for retail/supermarket?

A: We offer multiple retail-ready packaging options: 48pcs/display box, 2pcs/blister card, individual printed boxes with your brand and barcode, shrink wrap, and branded outer cartons. All packaging can be fully customized to your market requirements.

Q: Can you print our logo on the spool?

A: Yes. We offer 4 logo printing methods: pad printing (spool), curved surface printing (top cover), engraving (spool), and custom labels/stickers (spool or top cover). The best method depends on your design complexity, color requirements, and order volume. MOQ for custom branding starts at 20,000 pcs.

Q: Is PTFE tape toxic?

A: No. PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) is chemically inert and non-toxic. Our tape passes RoHS (hazardous substance free) and WRAS (safe for drinking water contact) certifications. It is safe for use in potable water systems, food-grade processing, and oxygen lines.
