High density PTFE tape is a heavy-duty, full-density thread seal tape engineered for demanding applications where standard-density tape cannot provide sufficient sealing.

 

At 1.0 g/cm³, this tape is significantly denser and thicker than standard white plumber's tape (typically 0.35-0.45 g/cm³), meaning fewer wraps are needed to achieve a reliable, leak-proof seal.

 

The tape complies with MIL-T27730A and UL standards, making it suitable for use in applications that require military-spec or UL-certified sealing materials. It is classified as an all-purpose, non-seizing thread sealing compound in tape form - compatible with metal threaded connections (galvanized steel, iron, brass, copper, stainless steel, aluminum) and plastic threads (PVC, CPVC, ABS, polyethylene, polypropylene).

 

Where standard-density tape works fine for low-pressure household water lines, high density tape is designed for more demanding environments:

- Natural gas and LPG pipe connections

- Oxygen lines (when properly certified)

- Gasoline and fuel systems

- Hydraulic and high-pressure lines (up to 10,000 PSI)

- Chemical processing piping

- Industrial water and steam systems

The tape is yellow, which is the industry-standard color code for high-density and gas-line PTFE tape. This color coding helps installers distinguish it from standard white tape (low density, general purpose) and green tape (oxygen-specific), reducing the risk of using the wrong tape in critical applications.

 

Installation guide:

1. Clean threads thoroughly - remove old tape, sealant, or debris

2. Starting from the second thread from the end, wrap clockwise with firm tension

3. Apply 2-3 wraps for standard connections, 3-4 wraps for high-pressure or gas lines

4. Press tape into the thread grooves to ensure full coverage

5. Tighten the fitting by hand, then complete with a wrench - avoid over-tightening

6. For gas connections, test with a gas leak detector before putting the system into service
