I. Basic properties of PTFE
PTFE is the abbreviation of polytetrafluoroethylene. It has many excellent properties, such as excellent corrosion resistance and heat resistance. It can withstand almost any concentration of strong acid, strong alkali, strong oxidizing medium and organic solvent. Its chemical corrosion resistance exceeds all existing plastics. Its temperature range is -195-250℃, and its long-term use temperature is -100-250℃.

1. In terms of kitchenware
- In kitchenware, such as some non-stick pans with PTFE coating, they are safe under normal use conditions. During the cooking process, as long as it does not exceed its tolerance temperature (generally not more than 250℃), the PTFE coating will not decompose and produce harmful substances. The temperature of normal cooking methods such as frying and frying eggs usually does not reach this dangerous value.
2. In industrial applications
- PTFE is widely used as a lining material in chemical, petrochemical, oil refining, pharmaceutical, metallurgical and other industrial fields. In these applications, PTFE is safe to use as long as it is operated in accordance with industrial standards. For example, in products such as pipes, pipe fittings, towers, kettles, containers, pumps and valves, PTFE linings can well play the characteristics of corrosion resistance, high and low temperature resistance, and will not cause harm to the surrounding environment and personnel, provided that there is no accidental physical damage or extreme chemical reaction conditions.

III. Safety considerations in special situations
1. High temperature situation
- When PTFE is exposed to excessively high temperatures, it may be dangerous. When the temperature exceeds 250℃, PTFE will begin to decompose and may release some harmful gases, such as fluoride. For example, this may occur when a non-stick pan is burned empty or placed on a high temperature heat source for a long time. Therefore, users need to strictly abide by the product's operating temperature limit.
2. Mechanical damage situation
- If the PTFE material is severely mechanically damaged, such as the coating is scratched or the lining is punctured. In some specific environments, such as chemical production, the substances inside PTFE may be exposed to the external environment, or PTFE may lose its original protective function, which may cause some safety risks, such as corrosion of surrounding metal structures or contamination of chemical substances.

In general, under normal use conditions, PTFE is safe, whether in kitchen utensils in daily life or in various applications in industrial production. However, in order to ensure its safety, users need to follow the relevant usage guidelines to avoid exposing PTFE products to high temperatures or harsh environments that may cause mechanical damage.
