The Difference Between PTFE And E-PTFE

Apr 15, 2025

1. Name

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE):

Polymer compounds made of tetrafluoroethylene polymerization have excellent chemical stability and corrosion resistance. They are one of the best corrosion resistance materials in the world today. Apart from molten alkali metals, chlorine trifluoride, chlorine pentafluoride and liquid chlorine, they can withstand all other chemicals. They will not change when boiling in water regia. They are widely used in various occasions where acid and alkali resistance and organic solvents are required. It has sealing properties, high lubrication and non-stickness, electrical insulation, good anti-aging ability, excellent temperature resistance (can work for a long time at a temperature of positive 260°C to negative 180°C). Polytetrafluoroethylene itself is not toxic to humans. The use temperature is -180~260℃, allowing quenching and heating, or alternately operating with hot and cold. Pressure -0.1~6.4Mpa.

Expanded PTFE:

It is a new type of medical polymer material, made of polytetrafluoroethylene resin through special processing methods such as stretching. White, elastic and flexible, with a mesh structure formed by connecting microfibers. These microfibers form countless pores, making the expanded PTFE arbitrarily bent (over 360°), have good blood compatibility, and are resistant to bioaging. They are used to make medical products such as artificial blood vessels and cardiac patches. From a medical point of view, it is the most ideal substitute for biological tissues. Due to its good biocompatibility and unique micropore structure, it is non-toxic, carcinogenic, and has no side effects such as sensitization. Moreover, human tissue cells and blood vessels can grow into their micropores to form tissue connections, just like autologous tissue.

2. Use

Application of PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene):

1. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) can be used in construction, corrosion protection, electronic and electrical aspects, medical aspects, etc.

2. PTFE film is an aspirational insulating material for the manufacture of capacitors, radio insulating pads, insulated cables, motors and transformers, and is also one of the indispensable materials for industrial electronic components such as aerospace;

3. Using fluoroplastic plastics to violate appearance characteristics of extreme charge under high temperature and high pressure, microphones, speakers, parts on robots, etc. can be made; using its low refractive index characteristics, optical fibers can be made.

Uses of E-ptfe (ePTFE):

1. High-performance fabrics

The film has the characteristics of lightness, durability, waterproofness, windproofness, etc., and can be processed into various fabrics of different water permeability or "breathability" grades.
Result: A unique high-performance fabric that is both comfortable and protective.

2. Medical implants

Because expandable polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) is purely inert, it can be used in a variety of rehabilitation solutions, including artificial blood vessels and patches for soft tissue regeneration and surgical sutures for blood vessels, cardiac, general surgery and plastic surgery, so that both doctors and patients can benefit from it. Our medical products are able to coexist with the body's own organization and restore their normal function.

3. Fluoropolymer fiber

Gore expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) fiber has high strength, low shrinkage, wear resistance and other characteristics, and has extremely strong UV resistance, thereby ensuring good stability and integrity in extreme environments. This fiber is very versatile and can be braided, woven, braided or sewn into a variety of fabrics, including compression packaging, sewing thread, building fabrics and floss, and more.

4. Gasket and sealant

Expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) has good chemical resistance, wear resistance and strong high and low temperature resistance, and is very suitable for the transportation and sealing of industrial liquids. Gaskets and sealing products, including flat plates, thin strips, and on-site molding sealants, are suitable for flanges of any size or specification.
